1st Project (Board Game)

Role

~ Moderator ~

Contribution

First of all, I would like to express my greatest gratitude to all my teammates who actively participating in the whole process of constructing this project. Everyone voice out their opinions and suggestions from time to time to ensure the project is in its best state.

As for my contribution, I suggested a new system/rules to be implemented in the original Snakes & Ladders game. The new system allows everyone to be involved in the game. In the traditional Snake & Ladders game, only the person whom his turn to move will throw the dice and move its step, while others just wait for their turn. In the new rules, there'll be 4 players, but everyone has their own task regardless of whose turn. The game.......... Stay tuned for more details!!! Coming soon =)

Also, I keep track on the progress of the project, making sure each part is done before the dateline we set. I also create a mindmap draft for KRD subject which later will be transferred into softcopy.

Reflection on subjects

KRD

This is the most interesting subject among the three. Although mathematics is not my major interest, but I got to admit that derivations of formulas in the first four chapter are fun, or at least they make sense compared to other derivations we did in previous year. So far, this subject is a okay for me.

CPDIC

Process control is the most difficult subject among all FOR NOW. The lecturer is nice and good, just we need more practice on the problems in order to fully understand the topic. As mentioned always by Dr. Abbas, we need to study many different books to comprehend this subject. But the greatest enemy that stop us from doing that is LACK OF TIME!! =)

PSLP

Safety is the most crucial matter in any plant, but yet I found this subject a little bit boring. Only substitution of values into formulas, and nothing much. Hope to see more examples of varies real accidents that happened. After all, people learn mistake from experience, not calculations!

Reflection on first project

Although the board game is yet to be tested and played, but I believe the concept is good. Simple and interactive, that's our aim. Studies found that people learn the best through games, and our board game will achieve the objective. I've exposed some hints on how to play our game up there in my contribution section, but still the final completion is coming!

KRD

Involves a lot of definitions, derivations that require high order thinking

CPDIC

Involves a lot of definitions, derivations that require high order thinking

PSLP

Involves a lot of plug-in-value formulas  =.=

2nd Project (Reactor Design - Waste into Wealth)

Role

~ Accuracy Coach ~

Contribution

In the second project, I did mass balance on vermicomposting process and size the reactor based on the amount of feed. As accuracy coach, I make sure every team member has correct info about the project.

Reflection on subjects

KRD

In the second half of semester, Dr. Tazli use a new approach of teaching. It is quite fun to learn from video as we can replay it whenever we want. Unlike in typical classes, we might miss some point if the lecturer is too fast or too slow until we fall asleep. Dr. Tazli's classes are fun and everyone stay active.

CPDIC

Dr.Haslinda taught us closed-loop system, frequency reponse analysis and process instrumentation. The second half of this course is quite challenging.

PSLP

As I said in the reflection during 1st half of semester, safety is the most important factor anytime anywhere. Especially after seeing the explosion happened in Taiwan and Tianjin,China recently, we have to take the matter seriously.

Reflection on second project

KRD

The objective of this project is to convert food waste disposed from Tesco to organic fertilizer using vermicompost. Vermicompost is a natural method of decomposing food by worms. Just mix the food waste and bedding and worms in the correct proportion and procedure, everything else just leave for the worms to do. =D

CPDIC

As this process happens naturally, not much control elements are needed. Just put the vermicompost bin indoor, room temperature, away from sunlight, sufficient humidity, then the worms will be very happy to carry out their jobs. =) But then, we don't know how to do the transfer function for this process T.T

PSLP

Safety is not a big concern also in this reactor since there is no high pressure, no high temperature, everything under room conditions is fine for the worms.
