Contributions

First and foremost, i would like to thank all my group member for their contribution in this board game. Without your contribution, our board game and website wouldn't be as great as it is now. It's great working with this team as we learn alot form each others. In this project, my role is an Accuracy Coach. I make sure that everyone is clear about the board game. My my contributions includes:

  • giving ideas in selecting what type of board game we should be using

  • suggesting ideas to improve the weaknesses of this board game

  • provide questions in this board game - mainly calculations and derivation of equations

  • find more hard questions when we are lack of questions

  • determine the number of questions we needed in this board game together wiht my team

  • determine the difficulty of questions together with my team

  • come out with some questions which can relate the 3 subjects together

Reflection of the courses

KRD

This course is interesting because learning how to choose a suitable reactor is important. With the same conversion rate, a smaller volume of reactor is more ideal as we save more cost, energy and space in building the reactor. This is the place where chemical enginner have to control the operating variables in order to achieve a maximum conversion rate. However, some tutorial questions are hard to answer and I have to study on my own to understand it. Perhaps the tutor can guide us how to tackle the problems

CPDIC

I would say that this course is the hardest to understand among all the courses this semester. It is really difficult to understand at first due to the Laplace Transform as we forget how the formula works. As time moves on, I slowly recall how to perform Laplace Transform and understand more slowly. But still, the level of difficulty for this subject is high, as there is alot more new terms and concept is being introduced. Dr Abbas is very patient teaching  and explaining to us and I believe he is the perfect person to teach us this subject. Hopefully, i can overcome the difficulty of this course.

PSLP

This course is all about safety. It is important to work under safe condition to avoid any unwanted accident. Therefore, this course has taught me the fundamental of how to ensure that your workplace is safe. Most of the questions on this course is based on calculation and formula. In the lecture, we always practice with lots of questions given on the spot by Dr Dzulkarnain. It is a good practice to do so as we can ask questions if we face any problems and confusions in solving the questions.

Reflection on the board game and the questions

After much discussion and suggestion, our board game is a little unique and interesting. We set our own rules in the game on how the game will be played. After analyzing the board game, I would say that the hidden meaning of our board game is it requires teamwork to move on. From this board game, it teach us that we should progress as a team and nobody should be left behind. If your friend is left behind, try helping them to overcome their problems. I hope those who play our board game will realise the hidden meaning of our board game.

Besides that, I have also learn how to edit and design a website. I have never try this before and it feels great to learn new things. I would like to thank my group for setting this website up and make it much easier to be done.

Regarding the questions, we seperate it to 3 level of difficulty - Easy, Medium, Hard. All of the questions are structured form. Each of us come out with questions of all level of difficulties. Easy questions are mostly definitions. This is the fundamental base in order to understand the basic terms. Medium and Hard questions usuallys includes calculations, reasonings and justifications. Honestly, we cracked our head on developing questions all 3 courses together. It is really a challenging task to do. Nevertheless, we manage to come up with a few questions combining 2 or 3 course together.

KRD

Some of the medium and hard questions need good analytic thinking which can enhance our understanding about this subjects.

CPDIC

Since my group cover mostly definition questions, i prepared some equation derivations and problem solving questions. One of the hard questions (real life incident) is quite interesting to be solved.

PSLP

The questions are quite direct, and most of the questions can be easily solved if the formula is provided. Most of the questions are based on calculations.

Reflection on 2nd Project

This project was quite challenging for me, since we need to come out our own reactor. It is a real life situation where my team and I really creak our head to figure out what to do with the extra meat/vegetable leftover. Nevertheless, we had a good start by doing literiture reviews which is make us understand how to handle these extra meat/vegetables. We discuss and explain our literature review to help our group member understand more about each ways to handle it. In the end, we agreed to do something quite special - vermicompost.

Vermicompost is a process where we use worms to decompost the extra vegetables to turn it into usefull fetrilizer. I would say this process is harmless to the environment since we does not use any chemicals, or produce waste which is harmful to the environment. The fertilizer produced can be used to assist the grow of crops, which can reduce the food sortage problem as well. Overall, I think this process is very ideal.

Although this project is schedule at our busy timeframe, where we have many other assignments, report, video shooting, presentation do be done. We even face some website problem which is something new to us. Nevertherless, my groupmate still show their coorperation and commitment in completing this mini project. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for showing great teamwork and commitment.

Role - Skeptic

Contributions

  • Provide a literature review about how vegetable can be turned into vegetable oil

  • Discuss and calculate the size of reactor

  • Discuss what type of reactor would be suitable for our process

  • Discuss what are the control element

  • Prepare the PFD of reactor

  • Prepare the mechanical drawing of the reactor

  • Prepare the concept map for CPDIC - Fire & Explosion

KRD

Reactor sizing is important. We need to know how much space is required to perform an ideal reaction so that we can have a maximum conversion, as well as little cost. Before that, we need to perform mass balance. In our case, we did our mass balance by hand calculation and some assumptions which is relevant.

CPDIC

From this project, we know what to control to make the reactor suitable for the vermicompost process, which is the appropriate humidity & temperature. We also understand more about how we should select our controller. Either a P, PI, PID controller. Each controller gives different response but we before we choose what controller to be used, we have to study our system at the first place. By using an appropriate controller, we can make our reactor perform really well, as well as cost saving.

Safety

We learn how to apply HAZOP analysis in this project. Overall, our reactor does not need to go under high pressure and temperature. Thus it is quite safe to run the reactor.

Reflection on Subjects

KRD

It is much more on application of what we have learn from the first half of the semester. It is quite interesting since we get to know what reactor are used in industry. Besides that, the method of learning this subject is a different approach, a whole new unexpected situation for me. As far as i study in UTP, I wold never expect a lecturer taking attendence, teaching using on9 system! Since we need to watch video and study more on our own, this is a sign that we need to find more information ourselves which is what we need to do to be independent, which is good to us.

CPDIC

Since the second half of semester didn't involve so much about transfer function, it is easier to be study honestly. Furthurmore, I think Dr. Haslinda did a great job making us understanding what the subjects are. However, we still need alot of practice to the problems. The frequency response which involves amplitude ration and phase angle still confuse me a little with the angle in degree form or radian form.

PSLP

Well, it would be the same as the first half of the semester, practice make perfect. Need to do more questions from the textbook to learn more, or how the question will be twisting. HAZOP, fault tree analysis, event tree analysis are very interesting to learn.
